Word Art Wednesday: Defy Gravity

Happy New Year to all my digital scrapping friends! It's so exciting to be starting a new year, and I have a special WAW creation for you this week to help celebrate. :) So, how many of you are doing a "One Word" project this year? I see lots of hands raised - including mine. I've followed this project in the past but haven't really participated, but this year I'm really excited to be joining in. Of course, trouble maker that I am, I couldn't settle on just one word, so I chose a phrase that really captures how I want to approach 2012. My mantra is "Defy Gravity." It was inspired by my favorite musical of all time (Wicked), and nicely captures my "go for what you want, and don't let anyone hold you down" state of mind.

So . . . to kick off 2012, I created this week's Word Art Free"bee," inspired by my One Thought project:

You can download it HERE.

And I've also got a fabulous new Word Art technique for you. Last week I talked about Super Sizing Word Art and making it a prominent element on your page. This week, I want to talk about using word art as the main design element on the page - similar to Subway Art. These types of pages are perfect for framing, or having printed on a canvas - and this technique is also perfect if you want to focus solely on the message in the word art. Here are a couple of examples with this week's word art:

I found this frame in an artsy store in Atlanta and just loved it because the square opening is perfect for digital pages. It's a small opening though (only about 4 inches) so I couldn't really use it to display a more intricate page with small photos, because you wouldn't be able to see them. But a page with one large focal point works really well (and it was perfect to display my One Thought phrase).

This page would be perfect to frame or have printed on a canvas (which is what I plan to do with it):

I hope this week's word art and technique inspires you to embark on your personal One (or two) Word Project! I can't wait to see your pages in the Gallery. :)

Have a happy, healthy and creative New Year - and I'll see you here again next week with another fabulous word art creation from one of the Orchard Girls!
