Make Your Avatar Bloom! [Archive]

Ok everyone here's a little activity for all of you. In every Orchard the trees bloom and the fruit changes as it grows. How about we make our Orchard 'change' as it's done a really good job of growing!

**Special Alert** Kami has offered a $5.00 gift certificate to her store for the best dressed Scrap Orchard Avatar!!

So get blooming, the Scrap Orchard Caretakers will be keeping an eye out and picking the best blooming avatar the end of this month!!

Make your avatar 'bloom', change it up, decorate it.

The rules are simple,
1. no larger than 150 x 150 pixels
2. you must use Scrap Orchard product, for example I used the monthly mega June Bugs (http://scraporchard.com/market/product.php?productid=16451&cat=293&page=1).
3. freebees from the newsletter, challenges at Scrap Orchard are welcome.

You don't have to use a personal picture if you choose not to, you can keep the avatar you presently have, just make it bloom.

Next month we may change the 'theme' Have fun and start bloomin'

Wow girls! Those are SO cute! I just had to play :) I'm gonna be hurting tomorrow when the kids come up to get me early, since I stayed up till midnight playing - lol! What a fun idea! I'll have to give this a try. Maybe I'll find some time to scrap this evening.

Cathi, do you scrap at 150x150 Pixel and resize every element? Or are you doing your LO in the normal size? I normally choose the 3600x3600 format, then I save it as jpeg in original size and high quality. Afterwards I open this jpeg file and resize it. That way I have no trouble with shadows or shapes. And it always looked quite sharp to me.

I'm resizing everything Ginger.... I have the same problem if I do a big LO and resize it down, even after saving.. I don't know if its PSP9 that is the problem??

But I did do this one just before.. I'm happy with it :) I used the Pirate Punk kit by Ziggle Designs :)

Cathi- That's really odd that it gets pixelated when you size them down. Usually that happens if your increasing image size. Wish I could help but I haven't the slightest clue when it comes to PSP.

Cathi, I made mine regular size, then saved as a jpg. then I cropped it to 600x600 at 72 ppi, then resized down to 150. I've found that the best way to keep clarity and not pixelated.

I saved a copy of mine at full size. I scrapped it that way then just resized it.

Ok, I've got mine finished. I used frame and alpha (recolored and reshaped) from "A gift for a friend" mega kit.
But I kind of cheated with the paper. I originally wanted to use one of the newsletter freebies, but this one by Kristin Aagard was too perfect. So, I'm out of the competion, but happy with a new avatar. :-) Was fun to use that very old picture. I don't even know how young I was then.

Okay, I got a chance to try it! I used Kami's "You're a Peach" freebie from back in the day ...

I'm usually scrapping my two little boys, so it was kinda fun to go all-out on glittery swirlies and such! :smile: (Though now that I've resized, it kinda looks like I shoulda used MORE!! Hee hee)

I was having the same problem in PSE 5 - but I just solved it. I'm going to post in case this helps anyone else.

I originally did my avatar 12 X 12 like an original layout and then tried to resize down to 150 X 150 under Image/Resize and it got all blurry and gross.

What did work was to just change the resolution from 300 to 72 under the Image/Resize tab and then change the size under File/Save for Web and then the picture was clear.

Clear as mud? :icon_rotate:

I was *intending* to do something like this when I first joined, but kept putting it off. I finally sat down and figured out my web cam and when I finally got a pic that I liked...23 snapshots later...I went to town.

I even learned a few techniques by the time it was all done... Woo hoo!!! :yesssmileyf:

As the mom of 2 boys, I also took advantage of the chance to add some bling!!! I've enjoyed all the challenges so far, but I think this one has been the most fun.

It was tough, and was done by a group poll of super secret balloting (sounds technical huh?).
