How do you make a bent photo? I've seen it on a few layouts and wondered how in the world to do it!

Hi Jennifer! Boy you ARE hyped on caffeine today, huh!?! :)
So do you mean a bent photo, as in a curved photo or do you mean a bent corner?

Can you pull a gallery example into this thread and show us?

Well Jennifer Beat me to an intro! The Honey Bees (Site CT members) are here to "cultivate" your skills! While we don't proclaim to know how to do everything, we know people who know people who know things! So if you have a question on how something was done, feel free to post a question in this forum! If you can, bring in a pic of the layout you have a question about. To do that, in a separate window, right click on the image you want to show us and you'll see an information window pop up. Copy the "properties" field. Now click on the "add picture" button above your message box (looks like a mountain) and another window opens up for you to paste the url for your image.

This is Ziggle and Tammykat's new collab kit (tres cute, by the way!).

Be sure to submit the THUMBNAIL image (or smaller image) so everyone can see the layout and, of course, be sure to tell us the scrap artist!

We look forward to learning lots from YOU, because we know we don't have all the answers but sure like learning new stuff!

Jennifer, if you mean a curved photo, I don't know how to manufacture it myself. (I always use a bent photo frame from my stash of freebies). Hopefully someone will come along with more knowledge than me. LOL!

That's what I mean, lol. I guess I will have to see if I can find some more freebie frames, lol.

basically a bent photo frame...not curled... you can do with a filter called AV Bros. Or you can do it manually. Basically you could take the lasso tool on polygonal setting and then select the piece or corner you want to be bent, file, cut and then file, paste then you can edit/transform/horizontal or vertical depending on the direction. Then move it into place... then the trick is adding your shadow to make it look real. I guess we should have tutorials on this sort of thing ! lol the shadow is the trickest part and wouldn't work without screenshots I don't think. *scratches chin thinking*

okay, I never said I was a pro . . . .but I've put together a small step-by-step tutorial using Paint Shop Pro 9. Sorry if you use another program. I scrap exclusively with PSP9

You can download the tutorial here:

I hope this helps.
I used the same techniques to make this bent triple frame last night

If you know your program, you might be able to figure it out by using this tutorial. If you use it, I'd love to see results!

Oh and I never claimed I could make tutorials :D

Does that help Jennifer?

Ok, I uploaded one of my favorite layouts I've done to show you.

http://scraporchard.com/gallery/data/500/Not_Without_Stacy2.jpg

I don't know how to actually bend a photo but by warping your shadow you can give the illusion that it is bent. That's what I did in this layout and I love how it turned out! (besides my adorable daughter that is!LOL!) After I added my shadow to my mat, I right clicked on the little fx in that layer. That will bring up a list of options, almost at the bottom of the list is the option to create layers. When you click that option you will be putting your shadow into it's own layer! Then you can warp it and play with it until it looks like it's bent! I hope that makes sense!

I haven't been able to make a curled edge (I do have a book on PSCS2 that will help me do this, but I'm too focused on finishing LOs), but I have "lifted" and curved a pix using the technique Tami showed (I warp the pic and the shadow). I just experiment until it looks good to me. If it looks very wrong then I just delete & start over! Don't cha just love digi?!

Question, I'm just full of them aren't I?
Shadows.......how? I've just been using the drop shadows that PSE has. Are there other ways to do them that would give me more variation?

Jennifer

Jaye-once you have added a drop shadow, click on layer(in the top toolbar), then go to style settings. From that point you can change the size and color of your drop shadow, add bevels, add strokes, etc

This is great info!! I wish I would have known you could put a shadow in it's own layer before I had tried to shadow half a picture in my newest LO. :o Thanks for the tip. Makes things a whole lot easier!

This is how I make bent photos. You can see an example on my latest LO called Sledding:
http://scraporchard.com/gallery/showgallery.php?cat=500&ppuser=3791
I used PS CS2. Make a drop shadow to your liking on your picture. Right click on the little icon on the far right side of the layer palette, select create layer. That makes the drop shadow its own layer. Select your picture layer and Edit>Transform>Rotate 90 CCW.
Select Filter>Distort>Shear. Drag the little dot on the line that appears in the grid until you get a bend shape that you like and click ok. The re-rotate the picture back to its original orientation, Edit>Transform>Rotate 90 CW. Sometimes I move the picture layer around a bit around the drop shadow, even rotate slightly to give a different angle illusion.
Anyways, hope that helped someone, thats how I learned to do it when I made siggys on iVillage :)
