I am going to start a new game here at The Orchard. Basically, each week I will randomly pick one member to be in the Hot Seat..! Then we will ask the person in the Hot Seat questions about themselves and they will hopefully answer them..! This is just a fun way to get to know each other a little better.
Since I just thought of this and didn't plan ahead; I will put myself in the Hot Seat first!

I am *so* not a shopper.. like I never find anything I like (regardless of weight).. I would say most of my clothes are from Target or Dillards. I really love the clothes at Express but they just never really fit me right.

Wow.. it's been a while since I have updated my Ipod (thanks for the reminder) I think the last song I added was "One of These Mornings" by Moby.
Favorite pastime away from the computer or karate studio?
Is sleeping a past time? Because I love me some sleeping!!! I really enjoy knitting and crocheting.. and I would really love to have more time to read (Kami let me borrow the first two Twilight books and I haven't picked one up yet because I know I won't want to put it down and I have too much stuff to do right now to not be doing it!)

Usually Commando, but I do wear undies their Gramma Underwear.. so briefs.
real or fake nails?
My nails are real.. no fake ones, I have to keep them filed do to the skin because of my constant itching. But I do like getting my nails done every once in a while since the acrylic nails are pretty thick and dull, I can't tear my skin up too badly with them.
real or fake boobs?
OMG! So real.. and *huge* since I have gained weight! I cannot wait to get rid of them.. big boobs are overrated.. they totally get in the way too much!
How did you get into Martial arts?
I first started Taekwondo when I was 8ish, after falling in love with the Karate Kid movie; at the time, one of my mom's co-worker's son was taking Taekwondo.. so my mom signed me up there. I stopped shortly after because I was in too many activities (dance, piano lessons, etc.). Then when I was 15, I decided I wasn't digging dance classes anymore and really wanted to start Taekwondo again. And I fell completely in love with it, the rest is history!
what style do you mostly train in?
Taekwondo is what I am most experienced in, but I have learned a little boxing, Hapkido and grappling. I hope to expand out more once I get back into shape!
How many years have you been studying?
I started when I was 15; so 15 years!
How many pets do you have?
Currently I have 6 dogs, 4 cats and 1 box turtle.
What are some of your nicknames?
At home, it's just Mel. In the dojang (Taekwondo school) I am often called bonehead, wench and sometimes spaz... depending upon how poorly I am doing or listening to my instructor.
When was your first kiss?
I was 14.. if you could call what we were doing kissing.. both of us were pretty clueless!
Have your ever been skinny dippin'?
No I have not.. we don't have a lot of places in AZ to go swimming.. the very public pool is about it.. and I didn't have any friends who had pools while growing up. When I lived in Austin, there were lakes and 2 pools at my complex but I never took my clothes off in either location!
What is the naughtiest thing you have ever done in public?
There have been a couple of times I got dress in my car.. like fully out of one set of clothes, back into another.. but that was in my car. Hmmm.. that's about it, seriously, I am just boring!

I learned basically how to crochet when I was probably 6 or 7 but didn't really start making anything until I was a Senior in high school. Before I moved to Austin I worked for a company that was a contractor and often times we didn't have anything to do, so we were allow to read, knit/crochet, cross-stitch, what have you so I did a lot of crocheting then. I learned to knit about a year and a couple months ago.. I haven't finished much of any of my knitting projects. The most intricate thing I have ever made crocheting or knitting would probably have been a baby blanket with a teeny-tiny crochet hook and I had to make like a bazillion two-tone squares then sew them together!
Would you rather cook or clean up?
Well.. cook. Because we really don't cook, so cooking around here consists of throwing something in the mircowave and hitting the start button! But we sure do know how to make messes!
When you do shop, do you hunt down a bargain for days or just go get the blasted thing, even if you pay more?
Well I certainly don't do like Black Friday.. standing out in front of a store for 5 hours in the freezing cold to maybe get something if they don't sell out first.. I don't do a lot of shopping.. so if/when I do it's usually like, gotta go shopping and then when I get there.. oooo, this is 30% off lemme look at it!

Where is the one place you would like to travel to?
Well.. there are two places; I would really love to go to Greece and Rome.. but then I would really *not* love the 10 hour flight there!
Hotel or Camping?
I guess it all depends on where the hotel is..! I would certainly rather have been camping than stayed at the first hotel Kami and I briefly visited in El Paso.. but I would totally pass up camping for a lush suite in Vegas!

Well, Kami initially came up with the idea and then her and Shauna became partners.. I was just in charge of doing the grunt work..! Then they both decided to let me be part owner which I graciously accepted.. and there you have it!

Oh I have to disagree with that. Big boobs are also good for storing your Wacom pen when you are typing.

OMG! I totally forgot about that.. I didn't think it was considered 'naughty'..!! I thought naughty was like... not nasty. Seriously this is a way graphic story so just proceed on if bodily functions make you queasy!
Okay... this is seriously TMI! I don't sweat, I just don't and I get overheated quickly.. and that leads to heat exhaustion. Anywho, Kami came to visit me in 2003 for my birthday in September.. and we went to the Old Pecan Street Festival. It was like, seriously 98 degrees and 70% humidity.. after about an hour I started getting really bad lower intestinal cramps and had to find a bathroom quick! We popped into a restaurant and I ran to the bathroom while Kami had to buy a freakin' drink so I could go potty! The bathroom was about 100 degrees hotter than it was outside, seriously! So I did my thing and was just not feeling well, so we headed back to the car which was like 5 city blocks away! About half way there the lower intestinal cramps got really bad, like I thought I was going to die. We were on one of the streets with just corporation buildings, no little stores, no hotels, bars.. nothing and I had to go B-A-D! So Kami was like, go behind those bushes... which happened to be in the back parking lot of Bank of America. So I ran behind the bushes where my butt preceded to explode.. and for whatever reason, Kami felt the need to have to investigate and caught a glimpse of me squatting back there and well... it wasn't pretty...!

How did you first get started in Web Design?
We got our first computer with internet access when I was 17 and I started looking at Geocities and other peoples websites... so I signed up for an account and really hated the editor they had because it wasn't letting me do what I wanted to do with the pages. So I bought a book and started teaching myself HTML.. I continued to learn and then came along CSS which is a blessing and a curse. So I had to start teaching myself that as well.. now I need to start learning PHP!!

I am completely self taught.

no... no... no
first off... she was in the bathroom in this restaurant for like 35 minutes- people. seriously. i was just about to bust in to see if she was still alive when she finally came out. then she defouls the B of A parking lot (and i'm not even going to get in to that) and THEN like one block later, she has to go AGAIN and i end up sitting in another restaurant for like 30 minutes. this one didn't even HAVE a public bathroom, but she was seriously in a bad way and they took pity on her and let her use their employee bathroom (probably the last time that happened) and she was in there for EVER! i bought another drink, because i felt bad and i sat there and watched 2 rotations of customers come through, eat and then leave, before she finally came back out. i had to drive home and i was seriously sweating it the whole way, terrified her a$$ was going to explode all over the car!

I do know which one was the funniest... the time I shoved a pebble up my nose and couldn't get it out... we were on a preschool field trip and I went the entire day with it stuck up there before I told anyone! Needless to say we landed up in the ER, one of my many trips there, to get it taken out!

I would have to say my 11th Birthday.. mostly because I invited *way* too many girls to sleep over and it was just all about the drama.. but also because I got my first dual tape player and a Bobbie Brown tape. My 14th Birthday was memorable because Kami gave me the Pearl Jam tape of 10 and then I listened to it like non-stop on our horrifically long road trip from AZ to Iowa. For my 18th Birthday my mom gave me a roll of quarters and we headed to the casino in Tucson! :P

Everyday guys.. I guess. I don't know what my tastes are in men.. I know what I don't like, but not so much what I like. I do *not* like clingy men.. Yea.. that's why I will probably remain single for the rest of my life!

What was the moment you've felt the most proud of yourself?
There have been several moments where I was proud of my accomplishment.. the most recent was probably in 2006 when I dropped about 40lbs in about 3.5 months from eating right and exercising.
so today i was at albertson's and the glory of love was playing over the sound system and i had horrific flashbacks of you listening to that song over and over and over and over and over....

i have a funny story! the last time mel was here, she left really early in the morning and didn't get a chance to say good bye to zoe. so later that day, around 5 pm, zoe finally asks me "is auntie meme ever going to get up?"
i'm not sure what was worse... the fact that she didn't get to say good bye to mel
or the fact that it was 5 pm and she thought it was totally acceptable that mel hadn't gotten out of bed all day!
