January 25: Featured Designer (Orchard Spotlight)

Every month one of our illustrious designers is the Featured Designer and they give away something every week in the Orchard Spotlight newsletter. Usually you collect all the pieces to a fabulous kit or set of templates, but this months Featured Designer is Happy Scrap Girl Designs who is best know for her awesome CU (commercial use) products. She is giving away 4 different sets of CU products this month!!

This month your challenge is to try your hand at using one or some of these CU products. Now don't get freaked out - I'm not asking you to make a kit or anything. Several of the elements are very easy to use!

There are a bunch of potential uses for the Worn Overlay Pieces. Try clipping a picture of paper to them! There is an instructional PDF included in the download for using the Worn Overlay Pieces, but check out Happy's blog for this tutorial Getting More from your Worn Out Overlays

The Fabric Flowers are ready to use, or recolored to suit your kit! SuzyQ Scraps has a fantastic tutorial for recoloring elements (there's also a video version too!) And have you ever had a kit that didn't have a solid paper just the right color? Now you can make one with the Texture Files Cardstocks. I found an easy to follow tutorial on Chelle's Creations blog: TUTORIAL: MAKE A “SOLID” PAPER

Here is a layout I made using some of the CU items, and a kit by Happy Scrap Girl called Serenity. Can you spot the items I used?


How I incorporated the CU into the kit: I recolored one of the fabric flowers, and used the worn overlay pieces for my picture and layered papers!

I made it pretty simple, I used one of the texture filed cardstocks for my background. I also used 2 of the worn overlay pieces, one for my picture and one for the backdrop behind it. I also used one of the flowers. :)

(BTW...I couldn't find this challenge in the drop down menu when I was uploading my LO, so it's not in the right gallery...sorry!)
